Circle the Earth- Grassroots Women Taking Action for a Sustainable Future was formed to address pressing economic, social, and environmental issues. Women and their communities are grappling with environmental issues of air pollution, food scarcity, dwindling supplies of fresh drinking water, access to land, deforestation, toxics, and the impacts of global warming. The current supply-and-demand of profit driven economics is profoundly straining natural resources. Many global leaders agree that planet earth is at a crucial crossroad.
In light of the current economic climate and other important issues, Circle the Earth has closed. Thank you to all who have worked with us and supported us, especially the Agape Foundation, which is truly supportive of grassroots advocacy.
Note from the Executive Director, Redwood Mary (Mary Rose Kaczorowski):
I am seeing grassroots women's organizations around me and around the country struggling or also folding as the hundreds of women's grassroots and issue-based networks overseas have wonderfully proliferated and continue to grow! But so much work to still do!
The Huairou Commission, based in Brooklyn NY, Women for Water, ENERGIA, Soroptimists International, Gender Climate Change Network, The Greenbelt Movement, GROOTS International, WEDO, WEP, The Mothers Centers, etc. have all been the leaders in this area of the grassroots women organizing, some for over 20+ years now.
Women do not need anyone to empower us – we just need the support to do the work, support in peer-peer exchanges and getting to the tables where policy is being made. We women have to hold the space for our place at all levels. And that takes time, money and dedication.
I want to thank you for all your support!
It is transition time for me....and I look forward to my next adventures! If you wish to contribute in any way to this transition- do let me know!
My deepest gratitude,
Redwood Mary
